Reveal Techniques To Play Guitar Chords With Lesson Packages Purchased Online.

If you have decided to learn to play the acoustic guitar or perhaps you were given one as a gift, the next thing you will want to consider is taking some lessons to learn how to play it. Today, unlike in years past there are a number of options that you could consider and this article will explore the pros and cons of the various options.

When one initially thinks about taking guitar lessons if is natural to think of the local music school or a private guitar teacher. While this is a tried and true age old method of learning to play acoustic guitar it has both positives and negatives On the positive side, it can be very helpful to have a live instructor to show you were you are going wrong in trying to master a particular chord change or riff, assuming of course you can afford a private tutor. If you cannot afford private lessons you will end up in a class of, typically, 8 to 12 students and may not get the personal attention that can be so helpful.

One of the drawbacks of the traditional lesson option is the cost, particularly if you go with private lessons. In addition there is the need to reschedule you life around the pre-set lesson times. This scheduling requirement is probably one of the biggest factors that destroys budding guitar masters for when your personal schedule becomes overloaded the first things that get dumped are activities that can be considered optional and in the greater scheme of thing learning guitar is typically considered less important than working or putting food on the table.

One of the better alternatives to taking acoustic guitar lessons in a traditional environment is to consider the option of a set of lessons purchased from one of the many online guitar lesson companies. One of the key advantages to on-line lessons is that you structure the lessons around your schedule rather than structuring your schedule around the lessons. That said, there are several things to be considered and a number of pluses and minuses that are in play. So lets look at some of them

Should you decide after considering your already over booked schedule that you want to look into the on-line lesson option you will quickly realize that there is a bewildering array of lesson packages out there to choose from. In the face of this massive selection the best strategy is to eliminate from consideration all of those that cater to musical interests and styles that are foreign to your ears. For instance if you are 60+ years old an recently retired you are unlikely to be interested in learning to play heavy metal rock or punk rock music styles to you can immediately eliminate all of those lesson packages as possible contenders.

Once you have narrowed the possible guitar lesson packages down to a select few that seem to cater to your musical interests you next need to consider if you want a course that comes to your door as a set of CD’s and manuals or a course that you access and work with on-line. Courses accessed on-line have the advantage of being constantly updated with new course material that you will typically have access to for the rest of your life once you pay the nominal one time access fee. In addition courses accessed on-line often have assistance and support available either on-line or in an interactive chat session in much the same fashion as if you were taking private tutoring.

To wrap this up when you sit back and realize that an on-line lesson package will typically cost less than one hours instruction with a private tutor. For that small investment you get a lifetime of access to a constantly evolving lesson package that takes advantage of all of the latest teaching techniques as well as providing a constantly library of songs. Taken as a whole, on-line guitar lesson packages make a lot of sense as an option for learning to play the acoustic guitar.

online lessons are an excellent choice! Some lessons offer chat room real time support. Beginner Guitar Songs Take online lessons at your convenience.

Learn to Play The Who-Behind Blue Eyes

LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR-The Who

Ok folks, now we are talking about one of the best bands ever and I can be kind of sensitive about there greatness. “Behind Blue Eyes”, in my mind, is one of the best rock songs ever written. Yeah, rock is mainly about love and angst and rubbing something that you probably shouldn’t but great rock is about rebellion, isolation, not fitting in and redemption and that is the theme of this song.

As I searched for a great teaching aid to this song, I became very frustrated. Everyone and their brother wants to show you the easy parts of the song: versus and chorus, but no one mentions the break. The break to this song is possibly the greatest break to a rock song ever, and nobody wants to deal it it. My other problem is that no one sings along with the chords to help you out. Anyone that knows me knows that singing along with the chords, no matter how bad, is crucial to becoming a great musician. I can’t bitch too much because realistically, I should go and buy the equipment that I need and learn how to do video myself, so I wouldn’t have to rely on other folks that I use as learning tools.

So, I finally found a guy named Siggi that actually tried to sing along and ignore the silly things that every other guys emphasizes. His chords and strumming might not be perfect, however, his commitment to the over all song is more genuine than the other guys and he actually tries to sing along, no matter how bad he sounds, which I preach! So, God love Siggi! Having said all of that, he also ignores the break, which I will revisite and try to remember and report back. I will now type just the words to the break, so that you can see how cool they are. I have to admit that I shunned any video that mention Limp Bizkit’s version. This is two fold. I think that they suck! And, they left out the break to the song also. Probably because they couldn’t pull it off. Here are the words to the break:

“if my hand clinches, crack it open, before use it and lose my cool

if I smile tell me some bad news, before laugh and act like a fool

and if I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat

and if I shiver, please give me a blanket, keep me warm let me wear your coat”

If you want to call yourself a real guitarist, you must know this song. I wish I could remember the break, entirely, but I don’t. I want to think that is largely and A, D and a G but I believe that there is another chord, that I am missing, possibly a F#major. Well, learn what you can from Siggi and when I have the opportunity, I will listen to the break and report back.

Great Video Guitar Lesson

Listen, for those of you that know me, you know that I all ways suggest that students get some type of structured lessons, to learn how to play guitar. I believe that if you scatter yourself all over the Internet, you can learn guitar but it’s like watching a fighter and then think that you know how to fight. In other words, you can watch but you really need some type of pragmatic lesson approach to get you to where you want to be. Well, in this case, I am going to back up and let you try the opposite of what I preach.  I found a kid, like myself that does everything perfect, except teach you what he is doing. What I mean by this, and people that follow my teachings, always hear me bitch about how these people that take the time to video tape their knowledge, spend way too much time on technique and intros and not enough time on chord structure and learning the song while singing along with it. Well, I have to tell you, I finally found a kid that does exactly what I require, but he spends no time on progression or techniques.  There is plenty to learn from it, so I will begin now.

This song called “What’s so funny bout peace love and understanding” by Elvis Costello. I love this song and I am dating myself by saying so. It is a great song to learn for beginners to intermediate players. He doesn’t mention the key, but it is in C. It is not that hard to strum and don’t worry about the ornamated passing tones that he uses. Also, if you look closely, he has a capo on the first fret but once again, that is not so important. If you don’t have one, you can tune up to an F and play along just as he does.

More than the fact that I love this song, I am thrilled about how this kid sings his ass off as he plays. I always stress this for my students, mainly because it makes you so much better of a musician. Would you rather have this kid in your band or some weirdo that stands in the corner and bellows out crazy shit leds that no one understands. Trust me, I have been in many bands, and you would want this kid.

I have never learned this song but I am so glad that someone else actually knows it and was willing to video tape it,  that I actually set my drink down to right this post. Like I said, the song appears to be in C, so you base chords are C, F, G and Em and D. Just watch him and learn and once you do, you will start to notice a crap load of songs that are very similar. I always push structured guitar lessons but I am letting this one slide. And that my friends, is how you learn to play guitar. You Tube doesn’t give me the code to embed it, like I really wanted to, but it does let have a link to it, so click the link below and go and practice, practice, practice.

Peace Love and Understanding – Elvis Costello

Learn to Play Guitar Green Day Style

Hey everybody, I have decided to go out and look for quality videos to help you learn to play guitar. I learned this song a long time ago and I always thought that if I was still teaching a students that I would add this one to my arsenal. My reason is that I can’t tell you how many rock and country songs out there use this basic song structure, or at least something close to it. In other words, if a beginner learns this song and really listens  to its progression, there will be a good chance that the student will recognize other songs that he or she has heard before. I must have looked at 10 videos for this and I have to say it was a little frustrating. It seem like that either the instructors spent a bulk of their lesson largely on the intro and the picking style of it, or it was ignored all together. To me, if you are an advanced guitarist,  you just have to listen to it, it is not that hard. So, my advice for beginners is not to worry about the picking. I would advise  just learning the G, C9 and D chords for the verses and throwing in the Em chord in the the other verse progression. Darin has a beautiful cheat in this video about how to skate around the picking. I believe it is a very valuable trick for anyone that plays guitar. My advice is to just concentrate on the chords and the basic song structure and if you want to go back and learn the exact picking, be my guest.

This song is a great camp fire song, meaning that you can play it nicely with just an accustic guitar and everyone loves the song and know the lyrics, so they will sing along with you.  Another one of my pet peeves is that most of these guys that video lessons, do not sing along with the chords as they teach the song. I can’t stress enough to sing as you learn the song. This technique will make you a much better overall musician. Did you ever hear of a not being able to chew gum and walk at the same time? Well, the same can be true if you learn to play guitar without working on the vocals as you don it. If you wait until your brain is firmly locked into playing the chords and then try to sing as you play, it is twice as difficult. So, sing along, even if you just mumble the lyrics or sing the same words over and over, trust me. For my next post, I will look for another juicy video to add with a guitar song lesson that I think is important to learning guitar.
